Here are the original sketches for the pieces of the collection. I've made a few changes, but for the most part this is the direction I'm going in. Some of the pieces include t-shirts, hoodies, dresses. enjoy.
i just got the diamond shorts embroidered w/ the beneeth script. as well as some pictures taken of a few garments in the collection [models coming soon]. last but not least, i have an updated portfolio site...www.keysha.carbonmade.com. enjoy.
Currently I'm working on high-waisted shorts. This piece incorporates a quote from Maya Angelou's 'Still I Rise'. It reads, 'Does my sexiness upset you, Does it come as a surprise that I dance like I've got diamonds at the meeting of my thighs?' Then the inside of the shorts reveals a diamond print on the lining.

Here is a hooded scarf I'm still working on. I'm thinking of printing on both sides, and using a thicker, or doubling the material. This will be in different colorways, as accessories in the collection. Also, I printed on the scarf, skirt, top piece.
I took some time out to do a piece for an exhibit. It is based off of the above t-shirt design for the collection. I extruded the ridges from a Yoruba bronze head from Ife Nigeria...and turned it into a barcode that reads 27million, which is an estimated number of people who were enslaved.
I'm in the process of creating more graphics for the collection, as well as deciding on a collection name. But I've pretty much completed 2 more garments, one is the multi-seamed coat of arms dress, and the other is a skirt/scarf/top...which i still need to screen print; i'm just waiting 4 some new paints to get in the mail. i'm also waiting on a dress form i ordered, which will make production a lot easier.
I've been working in my apartment on my thesis clothing collection since I have a convenient studio space set up...w/ a sewing machine, screens, and I just got a serger, which is very handy in finishing garments.
This is the progress of my clothing collection that depicts the spread of the African Diaspora while empowering the wearer through confidence & pride. The collection is entitled "Deep Roots, Long Extensions".
